Kickstarting Your Program: How to Quickly Roll Out A Great Idea into a Broad-Based Community-Supported Program
Say you know horses and the remarkable things that happen when they get together with people. Say you’ve done your homework and are proficient in an equine-related discipline; maybe you work in an accredited therapeutic riding center. This presentation introduces you to another important skill: the fundamentals for developing and unfolding effective, energized community-based projects that harness your community’s resources for sustainability and long life of the program.
You will gain practical and theoretical guidelines and tips for taking your great ideas for equine facilitated services and unfolding them into an active program within a few months, a program that sustains itself with a strong base of community support. Theoretical guidelines draw on chaos theory, principles of community development from years of international work by the Institute of Cultural Affairs, and organizational learning theory. The emphasis of the presentation, however, is on tried and true practical, step-by-step methods and tips forged by Trish Broersma in over 40 years of working in nonprofit organizations specializing in leadership training and human development, as well as therapeutic riding.
Trish Broersma has worked in the field of therapeutic riding and body-based modalities for the past 25 years, with an emphasis on equine assisted human development since 1993. Her book Riding into Your Mythic Life: Transformational Adventures with the Horse, details her innovative program with teens and adults.
